Hello, my name is Chris Kurisko and I am the owner of Black Iron Training. I have been training people professionally since 2006 and I have a great deal of experience helping people from all background get strong and in better shape.
My Story
Ever since I was a kid I have been passionate about training. It may sound cliché, but it is the God's honest truth. I started reading, studying, and practicing many forms of training from a very young age. I trained for different sports like hockey, martial arts, wrestling, and baseball, and for some reason was very attracted to the idea that through both mental and physical training a person could improve their life. It is truly amazing how proper training can impact an individual's development.

I am a graduate of Michigan State University. Throughout my career I have studied to become a Starting Strength Coach, an American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer, a Level 4 USA Hockey Coach, and have taken several classes and have spent countless hours studying about the process of training.

In 2011 I opened Black Iron Training in a 600 square foot retail space with a power rack, a bar, and set of plates. That is when the real education began and I continue to learn more about the training process every day.

I have operated out of three different Black Iron locations and trained many people over the last 13 years in business. There has been a ton of successful training outcomes and a few misses along they way. I survived over a decade of paying rent for the gym and keeping my family fed by collecting dues in the form of cash and check every month from my clients. I figured I would go about it the hard way and in order to get paid I would have to get results.

Aside from training clients in my gym I have also been a contractor for the Lansing Hockey Club, the Michigan State Police, Starting Strength, Starting Strength Online Coaching and Barbell Logic. Each of these contracting opportunities enabled me to work with a wide variety of people and significantly increased my experience. I am a better coach from the countless hours spent working with each of these fine organizations.

My goal is to help as many people as I can. My experience has allowed me to learn a lot about the process of training and I want to share it with those who are interested.
