Over the years Black Iron has had the opportunity to help many area athletes get stronger. It has been our experience that when we work with the right athlete at the right time we have a profound impact on their development. Here are a few of our success stories...

Nick Brandt
Nick was one of our OG Black Iron After-School Barbell program's success stories. Nick started working with me around 10th grade and learned how to build strength properly with proper squatting and pulling techniques. Not only did Nick go on to have a very successful varsity wrestling career at Dewitt as a 189, he also enjoyed both an academic and athletic scholarship as a wrestler at Indiana Tech University.

Nathan Nelson
Nathan came to us in 10th grade as a beat up wrestler who was dealing with chronic back pain and burn out from his sport. We taught his about the basics of barbell training and he was able to build up a great deal of strength. His back pain and burnout went away and were replaced by a love of barbell training. He competed in powerlifting during high school and deadlifted 500lbs in competition at a bodyweight around 185lbs. After graduating with Honors from Grand Ledge High School he went on to earn a degree in Naval Architecture from the University of Michigan. While at Michigan he was an active member of the Cheerleading team and alos participated in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting.

Jackson Wilcox
Jackson was one of the original after-school barbell members from Lansing Catholic High School. He was a standout football and baseball players that came to us to get stronger. During his time with us he worked hard and made great progress. After high school he went on to play a year of college baseball at Lansing Community College and was part of a team that went to the junior college world series.

Tristan Hollandsworth
Tristan started training with us when he was in 11th grade at Eaton Rapids High School. The former stand out baseball player decided to pursue the sport of Olympic Weightlifting full time and reached out to learn more about our basic barbell strength program. He ended up doing a work-study program with us his senior year when he trained daily and helped out at the gym. During our time working with him he increased his strength a great deal and had a great deal of success at several olympic lifting meets around Michigan. He unfortunately suffered a non-training related injury that prevent him from participating in the American Open and has not yet been able to return to the sport, but we are hoping to see him make a return at some point. Tristan was one of the hardest working young athletes we have had the pleasure to work with.
